As we all know, the best link is a link when related site link yours. Today it is hard to find free place to add backlink. Link market became more commercial and corrupted. But there are still a lot of ways to find good places for link submission and exchange. I always suggest to check who link your competitors. If someone link site related to yours… why can’t they link your site the same way? Moreover; if Google gives your competitor good positions based on his backlink portfolio… it mean that your site could have the same rankings after you submit site in the same place. If you already have backlinks and you get the same links as your competitors it will be still many differences between your and your client link portfolio. Google and other search engines will never punish your site for link similarity.
To check your competitor backlinks you can simply type in Google or Yahoo (better) search box link:www.domain.com and it will give you a list of pages with website links. You can use backlink checker tools as well. I really like to use Domain Pop and LinkVendor. They give information about backlinks together with pagerank and site ip.
After you discover sites that link related websites you should follow submission forms or find e-mail of webmaster to contact. Use simple language to ask about your site link. Offer link exchange and even donation for simple link, post, or review.
